Bridal Fashion Trends 2002
by Claire Colvin
At Bridal Fair 2002 in Vancouver BC, current bridal fashions hit the runway. Women Today Magazine was there to bring you the latest in his and her trends for your very special day.
For Her
Dresses this year are simple and classic with clean lines, attention to detail and an uncluttered look. Gone are the days of princess dresses, this year, it's time to dress like the Queen.
- Fabrics are luxurious in pure white or ivory matte.
- Dupioni and shantung silks are everywhere.
- Shoulders are bare with thin straps or strapless dresses and lots of wraps.
- Fitted bustier tops are popular.
- Backs are cut low.
- Skirts are full and A-line or cut straight.
- Full veils with blushers are back in.
- Tiaras are small and low to the head.
- Hair is simple and upswept.
- Crystal beading is in.
For Him
Don't reach for your prom tux, European suit styling is back in for formal wear.
- Silk ties have replaced bow ties.
- Cummerbunds are out.
- High cut vests are popular in dark colours.
- Jackets are three-button and tails are out.
- Put a hint of colour in your tie but keep everything else dark.
For Attendants
Like wedding dresses, this year's bridesmaid dresses have taken a classic turn (finally!). To pick a gown your friends will love even after the wedding, go for a dress with clean, simple lines in a really great fabric.
- Dresses are sleeveless and wraps are in.
- Fabrics are matte, not shiny.
- Empire waists are everywhere.
- Colours are stronger, bolder and pastels are out.
- Bias cut slip dresses are in.
